Sinfonia Adesso

Sinfonia Adesso is a dynamic, professional ensemble, recently established by Cayenna Ponchione, dedicated to presenting programmes and projects engaged with the issues of the present. Cayenna believes that concerts provide an important venue for exploring our social consciousness as well as our individual experiences and personal beliefs. For centuries composers have responded to the world around them leaving a trove of musical treasures that yet convey deep meaning about our present circumstances. Of particular importance, however, are the voices of today and the artists who are exploring what it means to be human at the start of a new millennium.

Merton College Fidelio Orchestra

The Fidelio Orchestra, a non-auditioned college-based ensemble, is an activity of the Merton College Music Society and is open to all Oxford University students. It is a venue for individuals to continue to develop their musical skills in a convivial environment while working as a group toward a well-rehearsed concert at the end of term.

Oxford University String Ensemble

Oxford University String Ensemble

The The Oxford University String Ensemble is Oxford's premiere string orchestra, providing a venue for accomplished young musicians to perform challenging repertoire at a high level. Recent programs have included Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, Britten's Variation on a Theme of Frank Bridge and Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony Op. 73a, the last performed in the historic Holywell Music Room, Britain's oldest purpose-built concert hall. Despite its relatively new formation in 2005, the orchestra has maintained a mission to broaden members' cultural horizons by touring annually to the continent, simultaneously sharing England's rich tradition of string orchestra repertoire with its EU neighbours. In 2013, OUSE took part in the Water-culture: women's work(s) project, an international initiative led by Alaskan conductor Cayenna Ponchione to raise water crisis awareness through cross-cultural artistic collaborations, giving the UK premieres of three new works by emerging British composers for voice and strings.
